EarthCraft House Affordable Housing Initiative

More than 1,500 projects have been certified under EarthCraft House, a green building program developed by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Southface. The program’s success is due to its practical approach to incorporating environmentally responsible products and techniques into every construction project, especially affordable housing.

Common technical services for affordable housing clients include design reviews and charrettes, energy modeling, HVAC load calculations, pressure testing of building envelopes and duct systems, energy auditing and rate analysis, mold and moisture assessment, and ENERGY STAR facilitation and certification.

Southface believes strongly in the concept that affordable housing is not affordable if the resident can’t afford to live in it. Habitat for Humanity Homes to mixed-income multifamily developments have been certified under the program to demonstrate that “green” can be cost-effective.
